my life the passed 48 hours

the black hole/our fourth bedroom is seriously coming along.

i have been organizing my guts out, shipping the world to DI, and enjoying every minute of it.

problem is, i'm supa ADD when it comes to cleaning & organizing. like, i'll be cleaning along & find myron's yearbook, and then next thing you know, i've looked through all our yearbooks, emailed a few friends from high school...got all teary eyed reminiscing about random memories o' childhood, etc.

then i'll start cleaning again, and i'll get hot. {temperature wise} so, i'll turn on the fan. and i notice the fan is dusty. so then i'll dust the fan & clean the fixture via soapy water.

back to organizing. and i'll miraculously remember to change the laundry... so i figure i better go do it, while i'm thinking about it. and there's no hangers. so i'll collect the hangers from upstairs. and then sort myron's shirts by color. and wonder *yet again* why-oh-why he owns a polo shirt covered in pineapples.

then i'll start up organizing again, and notice my "skinny" clothes sitting there in a box. so i'll try them on to see if *just maybe* they fit me. 75 outfits later, i am depressed. so i plan a new diet & exercise regimen.

you think i'm kidding.
i assure you, i'm not.

anywhooooo...

this weeks project:
organizing the food storage, relocating the food storage, get a workout transporting the food storage, hoping i never really hafta live off said food storage, and in turn:

clearing out the black hole's closet for other random storage items.
{ie: myron's gun arsenal, TN mission paraphernalia, my old doll collection, etc.}

i thought it was only gonna take the duration of a naptime.
{insert loud, loud laugh here}
and i was very wrong.

i sorted everything by food category.
then i put everything in order of date in their respective sections.
and then i snaked it under our beddy-by, for easy rotation.

and i put some under twin bed number one in the black hole:

and twin bed number two:

the sweet stuff is under chlo's bed, of course:

i labeled the oldest can, so i could remember where to grab from.

shortening or salt anyone?
i kinda ordered a lil more than i thought i had.
oooooppps.

and then i used a few old cans to organize the office supplies.
{told ya i was ADD}

i'm so stoked this project is behind me.
i could/might barf if i see another #10 can.

i'm saving up for a grinder attachment for my kitchen-aid,
so i can starting using the massive amounts of wheat that lie under me & my as we slumber.

i'm gonna try a few food-storage-esque recipies this weekend to share w/ my achievement day girlies, & i'll post 'em if & only if: they are ediable.

anyone have any yummy-ish dessert ones?

have a superb weekend even though the d-backs lost last night.
k? k.
{happy friday}

I have the same ADD, in a smaller space. It's crazy. I would LOVE to come hang at your place. I know much of my fam is planning on staying at your mom's, but hey, how often do I get to play with you?

Ok so big high five to you Angilicious for completing that HUGE project. I can't believe it. I feel satisfied for you. haha Also..I am the SAME way when I clean/organize. Bryan gets so annoyed with me because when I clean I like choose an area and then before you know it looks like Hurricane Katrina in here and as I clean little projects pop up with the things I find and then Hurrican Katrina decides to stick around a lot longer than any of us ever wanted her to. I cannot believe how much food storage you have! We have ZERO! So if there's a disaster we are coming to the Dunn's residence to survive for like 10 years!!! :) K I'm super proud of ya.

you are the meaning in my life, you are my inspiration. i mean seriously... i can't get over your food supply. can we switch? because i have maybe 1/4 of what you have, and i have 3 times the family. and did you can all that your self? i love the #10's. i have all these pouches of onion flakes, and hot choc. to last a lifetime. i thought i did all good 2 weeks ago, and i bought i think 30 gallons of water. when the very day, my friend unveiled her water supply, and showed me her celestial 50 gallon water tanks. AND they are cute, and blue. now, i am really really sad here ange. where does a girl start? my bed sits to low to the ground. i have toys under the kids beds. and a trindle under brinks. so where do i put it? i did put a bunch in my laundry room, i am outta space? i need to add on, just for food storage. seriously. it is mind boggling and i just i told brandon i feel like we live in a condo. because we are busting at the seams. i know it is something i need to work on. like right now. how much more can i get rid of. you are so so cool and angie is so not pink... she is RED HOT, like on FIRE for being the coolest girl ever!

You put me to shame! I have very little food storage because I feel like I have no where to store it all. I like that is looks organized under your bed. Is it funny that I can't put stuff under my bed. I'd feel cluttered, but after looking at your organized stuff, maybe...just maybe I might be able to do it. I'll get back to you on that one.

that was a super sad loss, they'll pull through though, i have hope! myron was at our house watching the game when the d-backs won the world series... good memories! mac kissed me on the cheek! ha ha! {my first kiss:) } jk, i don't actually count that as my first, don't worry. anyways, i'm super proud of you, not only for completing this daunting task, but for ACTUALLY having all {plus extra} of the food storage items that you do! again, a great example for us all! you rock!

Haha. Thanks dudes.

Cori, thanks for calling me red hot. That's always good to hear. Lol. Um, HEAVENS TO BETSY NO...i did NOT can all of that. I'm definitely not that cool. There is one person in this world that is to thank for my family having their year supply. Her name is Denise Taylor. She was my ward's food storage specialist when we lived in Mesa. She was the definition of: magnifying your calling. She made it SO easy for us to just order every month...She & random service-oriented members of the ward would go & can, and then you picked it up the first Tuesday of the month. And if you were crappy @ remembering to pick it up, or hugely pregnant, her nice husband would load up your car/or drop it by. Food Storage, and the thought of...completely overwhelmed me. Denise eliminated that with her upbeat, positive, you-can-do-it approach to her calling.

I ordered 6-12 cans per month for a really long time until we had enough. And because Myron & I aren't rich, or even near kinda rich...that's all we could afford to order...but it added up over time.

But don't ask me how to make anything using it. 'Cause I don't know. And I'm pretty sure I'd rather just die than live off wheat & powdered milk.

I know what you mean though, the storage things a toughy. I think our future children are gonna hafta play with toys at their friends houses only. I had great difficulty finding places for the things that were under the bed previously...and I only have one child! What happens when more come along!?

I'm sick of talking about food storage. How 'bout them cubs?

I hope you know you aren't the only one out there that has ADD when it comes to cleaning. It was funny to read this post cause I was thinking the same thing myself as I was cleaning my house. Why can't I stay on task and just clean one thing at a time. You go girl on your food storage I should do that I think our food is as old as how long we've been married. Heaven forbid we have to eat it. We'd probally die. Have a stress free weekend.

That's SO how I clean!!!
Here are a few food storage recipes I got from my old ward:

Spiced Applesauce
12 cups sliced apples (you can use the apple slices from your year supply-- just reconsitute the apples before you use them or add extra water to the crockpot)
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 cup water
1 T lemon juice
freshly ground nutmeg, optional

Place apples in slow cooker. Combine sugar and cinnamon and mix with apples. Stir in other ingredients. Cook on low 5-7 hours or high 2 1/2-3 hours. Stir ofr a chunky sauce. Serve hot or cold.

Basic Pudding
Four serving size. Mix together
1/2 cup sugar
3 T flour
1 T corn starch
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup instant dry milk

Bring 1 3/4 cup water to a boil. Add the water to the ingredients in the blender and blen until well mixed. Blend in 1 beated egg. Return mixture to pot and cook 2 minutes. Rmove from heat and stir in 1 T butter and tsp vanilla

variations:
coconut- use 1 tsp coconut floaring or use vanilla and stir in 1/2 cup shredded coconut

Very very impressive, way to be! Um. Collette Miller ( I think that's her name) from SBE has some awesome recipes for food storage, she said she would share with me. I'll pass it along.

Impressed to the brim again! I have no clue when it comes to food storage, although, when we had a "mandatory" visit teaching message a couple months ago in our stake that was all about food storage and I had to give it (LOL) I decided to make baby steps, ya know, buy some can stuff at costco or something...well I told my darling husband my idear and he informed me that we have a years supply in our basement. He put it away on the shelves without me even knowing! Hmmm go figure! Thanks was in order to the in-laws!

On another note - your ADD comments inspired me to get with it and I got a few projects done. Thanks!

How about you make yummy Christmas treats with all that shortening and salt? You are the most productive person I know. I like the idea of storing food under the beds. Thanks for the inspiration, once again! You're the bomb diggity.

PS Yes, I am the queen of "PS-ing"...Chloe's bedskirt is to die for! Take a picture of her nursery. I wanna see it, por favor!

I clean exactly the same way. I thought I was the only one but I discovered last week that my best friend does the same thing...and now I learn that you do too. crazy. Glad to hear I'm normal.

That's so cool that you have a freakin' food storage! What a huge project. It exhausted me just picturing you doing all that organizing. Way to go. I need to start a food storage. If a disaster happened, we'd be screwed! Way to be prepared!

MeL said...

So come the bird flu epidemic/end of the world, I'll be over, okay? Our food storage consists of a case of refried beans from Costco, and oh yeah, an enormous bag of rice from Costco. Oh yeah, and Philip doesn't like beans, so basically we're screwed.

Also, Angels and Demons was fantastic, another story about Robert Langdon, so it is very similar to DaVinci Code, but equally as captivating. They are making it into a movie right now, so I would suggest reading it before the movie comes out so that you don't get lost in the craziness of the movies. You can borrow ours if you would like. Also while we're lending out books, you can borrow our drug reference handbook, my Roald Dahl box set, our 18 different editions of Bathroom readers, or old and current textbooks on Chemistry and Biochemistry. Those are all up for grabs!

Oh, and thanks for saying my chair is cute.

wow. I think how you described the way you clean/organize is EXACTLY how I am. Even down to the yearbooks, laundry, & hangers. Which is why I hardly ever do it, because I know if I do I'll have to deep clean the whole house, which gives me a headache to think about. & I'm much too lazy for that.

ForeverSarahLee said...

Yeah... I'm just wishing I had a food storage that large :0)

Good work Ang. Let me in on the recipes if they so in fact end up being EDIBLE! Lol!

ForeverSarahLee said...

Seriously, that was long. LoL!

I'll give you some of my hair, totally. Just give me some of those big big empty cans. :0)

So as I'm about to start burning CDs... what else would you be into?

maccam said...

Wow! You're an inspiration. I need to get more organized. Thanks for the motivation.

Ok...You go girl! You have so much food storage. Good for you. At least you finish your projects. I leave them till someone is coming and staying with us and they have to sleep in the spare bedroom so now I HAVE to clean it out. I am the worst! I agree with Amber, I want to see pictures of your little girls room! Bet it is to die for!
