to really live

i know {i know}...
i've been posting a lot [too many?]
"deep thoughts by angie dunn" posts lately,
but!
i just had to share this awesome shirt i just got from bustedtees.

i had to buy it, because not only was it on sale,
but it's totally me.

and this is why:

since high school,
i have given my family specific instructions:

*when i die, i want a green participation ribbon adorning my casket- representative of the happy, yet extremely average life i lived.

you see: growing up i was never the blue ribbon winner.

track & field day stressed me out & then all i had to show for it, was a lousy green ribbon.

i have a trunk full of green participation ribbons. ribbons that added up to a pretty crappy self esteem.

somewhere down the road,
i decided to embrace my mediocrity & be proud of being averagely-average.

*i'd sport my green ribbon with pride.

{i still do.}

but recently, i've changed my mind about what i want that green ribbon to represent.

instead of representing a life of mediocrity,

i want it to represent an ordinary life,
filled with extraordinary love.

***

my new motto:
{compliments of one of my heroes, sister hinckley}

"i don't want to drive up to the pearly gates in a shiny sports car, wearing beautifully, tailored clothes, my hair expertly coiffed, and with long, perfectly manicured fingernails.

i want to drive up in a station wagon that has mud on the wheels from taking kids to scout camp.

i want to be there with a smudge of peanut butter on my shirt from making sandwiches for a sick neighbors children.

i want to be there with a little dirt under my fingernails from helping to weed someone's garden.

i want to be there with children's sticky kisses on my cheeks and the tears of a friend on my shoulder.

i want the lord to know i was really here and that i really lived."

Okay at 5 in the a.m. I am sitting here crying......you always say it BEST! You are so NOT just ordinary....you bring out the best in everyone that knows you......I know I feel that way all the time too and will voice it quite often but my hubby will say something like....but you spent time with a child today or you bend down and tie their shoes over and over or you took your daughter for a ride just because she needed out of the house......he does make me see sometimes the little things are the important things...especially when I continually look at my piles that AEN'T getting done......I LOVE YOU MISS PARTICIPATOR!!!!! You make our participating so worthwhile!!!!

Seriously woman, you are my favorite blogger. And next time I'm in Arizona -which will probably be June- I am going to bend over backwards to meet you because you are awesome.

I want to be a participator in life too. I don't need to be the best at anything. I just want to die knowing I lived. I want to push myself out of my comfort zone and do and try new (not dangerous) things & love myself for who and what I am.

I want a green ribbon too.
